My fascination with Africa began one rainy summer, when I read with bated breath Basil Davidson’s ‘Old Africa Rediscovered’, unearthed somewhere in the attic. The next step was to look at the tragedy of the Belgian Congo through the eyes of Joseph Conrad and more academic studies. Then it went on its own – Hemingway’s ‘Green Hills of Africa’, anything by Ryszard Kapuscinski, and finally fascination with the sculpture and culture of the Gold Coast during optional classes at university.

When I first set foot on the continent, Africa captivated me. I experienced the impression that no photos and descriptions could convey its real beauty and atmosphere. The hours of driving through the wilderness, the endless horizon that cannot be crossed, the sense of freedom and space, the sight of free, wild animals living carefree in these boundless lands. 

I returned with a strong resolve that a piece of this Africa must be shown to others. And it will only be a smaller piece, because “this continent is too big to describe. It is a veritable ocean, a separate planet, a diverse, overgrown cosmos. It is only in the grand simplification, for convenience, that we say – Africa. In reality, apart from its geographical name, Africa does not exist.” (Ryszard Kapuściński). Later I happily met Albert, probably the best person to tell you about the first slice – Tanzania.

Everything I do here is basically both a hobby and a need to do something amazing and, in addition, useful for the Africans themselves. This is because privately I divide my time between my family and my work, between suburban Milanówek and Swiss Lucerne.
